Some antique dolls were made sporting the current styles of the era with everything from hats and bonnets to stockings and shoes. Other dolls may have been special occasion dolls that wore brightly colored festive outfits or costumes.
Some makers of antique doll clothes custom make clothes for a specific doll or type of doll. In cases where the original clothing and accessories were soiled, damaged or lost, having replicas made may be your only option for dressing your doll.
You should be aware though that if you have clothing or costumes for your doll that are not the originals, the value of your dolls can be greatly reduced. There are dealers and sellers who have original clothing items for certain dolls and you can expect to pay quite a bit of money for a popular piece that is hard to find.
